Why I am Drinking the Kool-Aid
Last article I broke down the offense with Bobby P. We left off with the basement of wins being 7, but I am saying 8 maybe 9 wins with an outside shot at 10. So how could this happen? Let’s continue with looking at the defense.
It is the second year for our DC Coach T Will. Last year the defense was the strong suit of the team. This year the defense will take another step forward & give us 1 or 2 more wins. Let’s break down how starting with the DC.
DC: I had my doubts about Coach T Will after last year due to his use of linebackers in his 4-2 defense. So I did a deep dive into his coaching philosophy & it has changed my mind. I truly believe the defense is better, deeper, & will be more aggressive this year. Why you ask? Because I truly think the defense will play with a lead this season.
Front 7: Beginning with the Defensive line; they are deeper, bigger, & this D Line is hungry. I believe they will be very effective in shutting down the run, & controlling the pocket to harass the QB. I would even say Gregory is the most underrated D-Linemen on the team. He is going to ball out this year with Cam Ball.
If this defensive line doesn’t perform up to expectations I expect a new D Line coach to be introduced.
The Linebackers are deeper, bigger, more athletic than last year’s team. I like this batch of backers more than last year’s corp. PLus with the defensive line wreaking havoc that frees up the linebackers to eat like a boss. I know this could happen because Coach T Will is “that guy” to lead this defense.
The Back End: Coach Woodson has a proven track record that makes him the best secondary coach in college football. When he took over at FSU their secondary was flaming dumpster juice. Year one saw minimal improvement, year two saw a drastic jump, year three they looked like world-beaters & which is a big reason why FSU went undefeated this past year.
This is year two at Arkansas & I expect the back half of the defense to take a huge leap forward like the front 7 will. The secondary is deep, talented, & fast. If Arkansas can solidify the safety position with Metcalf this unit will be scary good.
This entire defensive unit from front 7 to the back end working hand in hand could give us a win we as fans were not expecting. So the basement of wins is now 8.
